THE INDIANA PROJECT
According to a recent article, on the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) website, titled "Diversity in the Securities Industry" minorities represent less than 5% of the overall workforce.
The Indiana Project is designed to provide minority college students that have an interest financial services gain knowledge of the securities industry.
The program prepares students to successfully sit for and take the Securities Industry Essential Examination (SIE). The SIE was designed as a precursor to the Series 7 examination to ensure a more successful outcome to sitting for the Series 7 examination.
Mentors and program instructors are nationally recognized financial industry leaders.

David B. Girton is an accomplished professional in the financial services industry. , David possesses over 30 years of experience in financial services beginning in 1983, where he specialized in retail brokerage, municipal finance, and institutional trading. Throughout his career, David has diversified his skillsets and actively co-managed several municipal transactions including water, sewer, educational facilities, airports, and stadiums. To date, he has participated in over 10 billion dollars of co-managed underwritings. In 2010, Mr. Girton founded the Liger Financial & Trustee Education conference that brings together Trustees, Plan Sponsors and Money Managers from all over the United States to knowledge share, network and collaborate. David has served on several corporate and civic boards both elected and appointed. He currently serves on the Washington Alliance Capital Board of Directors and the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS) Review Committee.
David was previously elected to the Indianapolis Public School Board of Commissioners, the largest school district in the State of Indiana where he served two consecutive terms. Mr. Girton has received numerous recognitions including the Indiana Black Expo Governor’s Award, Stanley K. Lacey Leadership Class XV for emerging leaders, National recognition in Black Enterprise Magazine, named one of Ebony Magazine’s 50 Leaders of the Future, and the Indianapolis Business Journal 40 under 40, who recognizes leaders who have achieved a level of success that is rare at a young age. David is a member of the National Association of Security Professionals. He received a Bachelor of Economics degree from Indiana University and currently holds the following security licenses: Series 6,7, 24 and 63.
